World Largest Floating LNG Tank Project

URTIM Formwork and Scaffolding System leave Turkish engineering signature on the world’s largest floating LNG tank project

The preference for URTIM’s scaffolding system in the 480,000-ton LNG tank project, the world’s largest floating LNG platform ever designed and constructed, is a source of great pride for Turkey.

The floatable LNG tank project, constructed as a reinforced concrete structure covering an area equivalent to 6 football fields (72,625 m2), stands at 330 meters in depth, 153 meters in width, and 151 meters in height, supported by 121 steel legs with carrying capacities ranging from 55 to 200 tons each.

The scaffolding system, patented by URTIM and developed specifically for the project, was completed after a three-year process. The success and skills of numerous Turkish engineers played a crucial role in the project’s completion.

Throughout the project, scaffolding systems such as support scaffolding, heavy-duty scaffolding, and ladder tower scaffolding were rapidly employed at each stage. Additionally, a completely unique scaffold was developed for the project. One of the most notable features of this system is its ability to transition to the membrane process without dismantling the scaffold after the initial concrete pouring in the massive structure. The Hybrid Scaffolding System significantly reduces the challenges of cost, labor, and time associated with large structures, providing substantial advantages to companies.

With its innovative solutions developed within the scope of many successful scaffolding and formwork projects worldwide, including the recently completed LNG tank project, URTIM once again demonstrates the global competitiveness of the Turkish engineering and technology sector.

URTIM’s track record of successful scaffolding and formwork projects worldwide, coupled with its innovative solutions in the recently completed LNG tank project, showcases the ongoing global competitiveness of the Turkish engineering and technology sector.
